I have taken classes at the St. Athanasius Adult Greek School throughout the past year. I keep signing up every semester and intend to sign up again next year. Rena is a great teacher - she presents the material well, listens to questions and fully explains the answers. By presenting the material through lectures, pre-recorded conversations, and direct dialogues with the students, Rena keeps the class interesting while the students are developing the different skills needed to learn the Greek language. I highly recommend these classes.

My experience….
Coming from a home that did not speak Greek, I wanted to learn. I took two sessions, beginners and intermediate. They were both applicable to the title. I would like to have several beginner classes :). Although everyone was at difference levels, the collaboration of everyone’s input during the classes was helpful. I never felt pressured if I was not keeping up. There was written homework, but no tests. Everything was reviewed and explained together as a class. There were classes lessons and conversational exercises. Classes were fun and relaxed! Teacher was extremely knowledgable as an educator and Greece’s history.

The adult class has been a great experience for me. I had a limited knowledge of the Greek language however, that has changed since September 2024. This class has helped build our vocabulary and we have learned declinations and conjugations. We have been taught comprehension in real life situations. Learning to speak in the real world is extremely useful for the adult student. Kyria Rena has taught us how to place an order in a restaurant, purchase items at the grocery store, make an appointment or reservation. Adult learning at its finest! I look forward to the next semester!

I have really loved being part of this Greek school class the past year! Our teacher Rena is so clear in her explanations and teaches in a way that actually feels useful for real-life conversations.
I signed up because I wanted to grow my vocabulary and get a better handle on grammar, and this class has definitely helped with that.
